Labour, Unions and the Future of Work

Conference by Amerikahaus – with support from FES Future of Work – July 10 to 12 in Munich.

At the Amerikahaus 2025 Annual Conference, we aim to explore various dimensions of the central theme: “Labor, Unions, and the Future of Work.”. An opening talk and discussion with Mary Anne Trasciatti (Hofstra University) will engage with Triangle Fire Memorial in New York to explore the significance of art, activism, and memorializing. In their keynote lectures, Colin Crouch (Warwick University) will explore today’s industrial relations systems, Sherry Lee Linkon (Georgetown University) will engage with Black women’s deindustrial imaginaries, and Katherine Gibson (University of Western Sydney) will speak about truth-telling, diverse labors, and negotiating work futures. Four panel sessions seek to explore different aspects of the conference topic in more depth:

(1) Past Ideas on the Future of Work;

(2) Feminist Conceptualisations of Labor and the Future of Work;

(3) Race and the U.S. Labor Market;

(4) Practices, Imaginaries, and Institutions of Worker Organising.

On behalf of FES Future of Work, Reiner Hoffmann, Deputy Chair of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, will welcome participants.
